Unlike the UK where you drive on the left side of the road, driving in Skukuza operates on the right-hand side. Also, remember that distances here are often expressed in kilometers, not miles.
Within the Skukuza rest camp, there's adequate parking. However, street parking isn’t common in surrounding rural areas. The Skukuza airport also offers ample parking if you're flying in or out. Note that unlike the UK, parking charges in Skukuza are typically lower.
This vast game reserve is home to Africa's "Big Five" game animals. Alternatively, visit the Skukuza Indigenous Plants Nursery or play a round at the Skukuza Golf Course, an oasis of greenery in the heart of the wild.
In the Kruger Park, the maximum speed limit is 50 km/h on main roads and 40 km/h on minor roads. Outside the park, speed limits range from 60 km/h in residential areas to 120 km/h on highways.
If you'd prefer not to drive, Skukuza does offer alternative transport options. The Skukuza Airport is served by several airlines, connecting Skukuza with other South African cities. There are also shuttle services between the airport and Skukuza Rest Camp.
The South African Railways' "Luxury Rail Experience" is another option, offering scenic rides that pass through Skukuza.
The local currency is the South African Rand (ZAR), which tends to provide better value than the Pound Sterling (GBP). The climate in Skukuza is subtropical, with temperatures warmer than the UK all year round. The most rainfall occurs between October and March.
Visit between July and October, during the dry season, as animals congregate around the shrinking waterholes, offering optimal game viewing. For birdwatchers, the migratory birds visit between November and April.
From breath-taking wildlife to a warm and welcoming African atmosphere, Skukuza offers an immersive experience, bustling with adventure. Are you ready to hit the road?
