Looking to rent a car upon arrival? No problem! Polokwane International’s car rental area, located on the terminal's ground floor, hosts several reputable rental agencies. Remember to keep your driving license and passport handy for the paperwork. Note, South African cars are right-hand drive, unlike in the UK, and it's normal to overtake on both sides when driving on dual carriageways or motorways.
Only 5km south of Polokwane, the airport boasts easy access to the R101 and the N1, South Africa's most extensive highway. It takes about 10 minutes drive to the city centre. Polokwane's position makes it an excellent base to explore the rest of Limpopo.
Rest assured, you'll find several petrol stations within a 5-mile radius of the airport. Remember, petrol stations in South Africa are manned, and workers will fill up the tank for you. Don't forget to carry cash as not all petrol stations accept cards.
South Africa uses the Rand (ZAR), which you can readily obtain from several ATMs and foreign exchange services at the airport. The Limpopo province enjoys a subtropical climate, which means warm temperatures year-round. Do pack your sunscreen!
