The more expensive the hired car, the higher the chance that you may not drive it abroad. Individual vehicle categories or even models are subject to their own rules. Driveboo has asked its partners, for you, what the regulations of respective providers are and in which case crossing a countries boarder with your hired car is permitted.
If you are planning a trip abroad, it is particularly important to find out in advance whether and with what regulations a trip abroad with the hired car is permitted, because more and more rental cars are equipped with a GPS location system that entitles the lessor to locate the car and, in the event of an unscheduled stay, to shut it down.
In general, you will find all information regarding permitted or not permitted trips abroad in the rental conditions of your individual offer before booking. Whether a border crossing with the hired car is permitted depends primarily on whether the insurance cover for the hired car also applies in the neighbouring country.
Please note that even if the border crossing is allowed according to the rental conditions, you must actively inform the lessor about the planned trip abroad. It is therefore best to specify the border trip when you make your booking.

Entry to neighbouring countries is permitted for certain groups on request.
This means that you write a message to our service team when booking and communicate your wish for a border trip. Our service team then forwards this to the local partner and, in most cases border travel is no problem.
However, vehicles in the category convertibles and all models in the luxury class vehicle category may not leave the country.
Western Europe: Trips to all Western European countries are permitted. All countries visited must be indicated at the time of booking and noted on the voucher.
Eastern Europe: Trips to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia are allowed - without an additional charge. Trips to Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Romania and Russia are allowed for an additional fee of about EUR 7.30, per day (maximum EUR 51.00), including VAT.
In the case of Budget, all countries visited must be indicated at the time of booking and noted on the voucher.
International journeys are possible for following countries: Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Great Britain (incl. Northern Ireland), Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway,
Portugal, San Marino, Spain (excluding Ceuta and Melilla), Sweden, and Switzerland.
You may drive a Hertz vehicle in the following countires, but you may not return it there: Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
Trips to European countries such as Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia are possible, but not with vehicles from Mercedes, VW, BMW and Audi or other luxury vehicles.
General exceptions apply to: Mercedes and BMW models, convertibles, SUVs, vans and trucks, as well as all Hertz Prestige Collection and Fun Collection vehicles. These may not be transported and/or returned to Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The special exception is Italy: Mercedes and BMW models, convertibles, SUVs, as well as all Hertz Prestige Collection and Fun Collection vehicles may not be driven to and/or delivered to Italy.
Please note that if these restrictions are ignored, all insurance and liability restrictions (CDW, TP, Super Cover, PI), if completed, will lose their validity. The driver is then fully responsible in the event of damage and must bear all resulting costs, including the costs for the return transport of the damaged vehicle.
International journeys are permitted to the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, mainland Spain, Switzerland and Sweden.
Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia and Hungary is for vehicle groups: ECMR, CDMR, CDAR, CXMR, CWMR IDMR, IWMR, FXMR, FXAR, FVMR and PVMR.
International journeys are not allowed to the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Turkey, Greece, Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Estonia, Iceland, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania and Ukraine.
Porsche vehicles may only be driven in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Crossing state or national borders is not permitted.
