Traffic Rules & Speed Limits
Driving in Montevideo might seem a tad bit different from what you're used to back home. The city drives on the right-hand side of the road and steady beeping is a common occurrence- a sharp contrast from the UK! The general speed limit within the city is 45km/h (28mph) and 90km/h (56mph) on highways unless otherwise indicated. Seat belts are mandatory.
Parking and Car Class Recommendations
On-street parking in the downtown area is metered from Monday to Friday between 10 AM and 6 PM, and it's free outside of these hours and on weekends. For those exploring outside of the city, we recommend a compact car for its fuel efficiency and easier parking.
