Driving in Liege
Left or Right?
Unlike in the UK, driving is on the right-hand side of the road in Belgium. This may take a bit of getting used to if you're more familiar with the British way. Fear not! It’s all a part of the adventure. Just remember, roundabouts operate in a clockwise direction.
Speed Limit
The speed limit within the city is usually 50 km/h (about 31 mph). On motorways, you can drive up to 120 km/h (75 mph). Always pay attention to signposts as speed limits can vary. Also, there are speed cameras scattered throughout the country. So, observe speed limits to avoid steep fines.
Rental Car Recommendations
Most of the streets in Liege are pretty narrow, so a compact car would be a good fit for city driving. It’s also more fuel-efficient and easier to park. Don’t forget to check whether your rental car is manual or automatic - unlike the dominant automatic cars in the UK, manual vehicles are common in Belgium.

Parking
In Liege, parking is mostly paid in the city centre from Monday to Saturday, usually from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free parking areas are available but often require a short walk to the city centre. There are also several car parks around, if you prefer.
